Beste fans,

Mein Deutsch is nicht so gut, dann in English :)

We are a group of 10 fans from Holland and we are going to visit MSV next sunday against Jahn Regensburg. After our first MSV match against Hertha BSC (2-2) this season we felt in love with the stadium and the fans. Next sunday we decided to go again and visit Die Zebra's against Jahn Regensburg.

Because we are not known in the area of Duisburg we would like to know what's a good spot to drink a pint before and after the game? (we prefer city center)

Other tips and must-do's are welcome :)

Thanks in advance!

First of all, welcome to our cosy little community! :huhu:

Now to your question: You really should go to the Innenhafen, it's only a few hundred metres away from the city centre and has a multitude of great locations where you and your friends can celebrate the Zebra victory (or have some hard drinking out of frustration because of our defeat) after the match.

Enjoy your stay, lads! :msvschild:

Thanks lads, i appreciate your comments!

So.. Innenhafen is the place to be where we can find some good pubs? Do you recommend a taxi from the stadium or is there a good public transportation going?

Thanks for the advice!

:)

Do you recommend a taxi from the stadium or is there a good public transportation going?

If you prefer public transportation, the probably best choice would be to take the U79 tram from the Hauptbahnhof and then ride it until you arrive at the station "Grunewald", from where you can just follow all the other fans to the stadium. Alternatively, you could also take the bus lines 923 or 934 from the Hauptbahnhof to the station "MSV-Arena". If you like it more comfortable though, you could indeed just take a taxi - it would only cost a few Euro for each of you if you share, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.

What about the "Finkenkrug" at Sternbuschweg? :D

First of all : DON'T go to the Innenhafen. This is what we call here "Schickimicki!" :D
Seriously... there might be a few good restaurants but not a good pub (especially) for fans.

But the Finkenkrug can be highly recommended! :zustimm:
Due to the fact that you can choose between 222 (!) sorts of beer...what else would you take? :D

If you go by car just check out the homepage. If you choose the public transport do as following :

It's very easy to get there from the main station and furthermore to the arena. Just take the tram 901 in direction "Mülheim Stadtmitte" and jump out at station "Schweizer Straße", then go left. In front of you is a big crossroads where you turn right onto the Schweizer Straße (there's even a big road sign that guides you to Duisburg-Wedau). After about 400-500 meters the Finkenkrug is on the left side. On Sundays they open at 11 a.m. :zustimm:

From there to the MSV-arena it's even more easier :
You take the bus stop on the opposite side of the pub and hop in the line 937 and go to "Grunewald" (5 stations). From now on you only have to follow the "Zebrastreifen" / blue-white colours. ;)

Enjoy your stay!!! :huhu:

I agree, you gotta visit the Weihnachtsmarkt, there are plenty of great opportunitys to have more than just a pint, good snacks in all kinds of varieties and not too expensive.
You cant miss it, its located all over the city center, opens at 11 until late.

The weatherforecast isnt too bad for sunday: 7 degress and maybe a little bit of rain.

Close to the stadium there are a few pubs of the local sportclubs around the stadium.
From City center or the Finkenkrug, you can take a bus or the U 79.

Have a great and pleasant stay, and a fantastic game!:huhu:

Welcome to the Zebra drove! :)
I think the best would be to visit the christmas market (Duisburgse Kerstmarkt) at the Duisburg city centre. You can get all informations on this webpage:
http://nl.duisburger-weihnachtsmarkt.de/startpagina
It's in dutch, because many dutch visit the market!

From there you can take a ride with the underground to the stadium (you have to walk about 10 minutes from the station to the stadium), or go by bus direktly to the ground.

Thanks all u lads for the response :)

I thought most of MSV-fans will come together in 1 pub but that's not?

I guess it will be the Finkenkrug before the match and city centre after match ;)

Finkenkrug is a nice, but expensive (especially beers from overseas) pub with 222 different kids of beer. Another possibility is "Fährmann" (pont man), located at Mülheimerstr. just take U79 Tram at Grunewald Station and go to Duisburg HBf (Centraal Station). There you take 901 tram direction Mülheim or Zoo / Uni and get off at "Schweizer Str.", then you already arrived Fährmann. Only Problem: It opens at 1800.

I really don't understand what your guys' problem with the Innenhafen is, it has some great locations to go to. Let's just make a compromise: Our Dutch friends could go to the Finkenkrug before the match, and then go to the Weihnachtsmarkt and the Innenhafen after the match - that should cover all and is easily achievable.

Kind of misleading information (red part).
Exit the 901 subway at "Schweizer Straße", turn right onto "Sternbuschweg", then proceed as described above.
After predrinking at Finkenkrug, you may also walk to the stadium. There are plenty of stores on the way to replenish your beer stock - and to not get dehydrated.
Sing football chants.

Have fun.

What a game!!

This is the reason we visit MSV haha :D
First half we are standing in section I which was a little bit boring.. second half we moved more to the section behind the goal which was very atmospheric! Next time we will start our match from that section!

But after the game we wanted to drink a pint in city-center, but to be honest Duisburg is not the most ideal city.. we couldn't even find a good pub to get a good drink. So we asked a taxi and the guy dropped us at Innenhafen, but that was even more bored so we moved on, after our diner at Missisippi Bar & Restaurant (good cream cheeseburger!), back to Holland ;)

So next time i hope to get better advices for a good drinking spot after the games haha ;)

Thanks lads!

Well I think that the best advice you can get has been proposed here already:

(Finkenkrug/)

Due to the immediate vicinity to the university of Duisburg/Essen you will find an interesting mix of guests enjoying the most exceptional variety of beers from all over the world.

Try a "Mongozo Banana" from Bolivia. *g*

You might visit the Finkenkrug on Facebook as well:

A list of beverages you can enjoy can be found here:
Bierkarte

And next time, we give you the user "Iceman" as your pub guide....
Iceman loves people from Benelux ;)

My dear Ben, I think we need to talk, IMMEDIATELY...! :D

Is Iceman available on Monday 4 march after the game against Braunschweig? ;) We will visit MSV again with 5 lads..

Dag and hello dear guys from NL, welcome and yes, Ben is right so far, unfortunately there is not that much going on in our lovely hometown even on weekends and on a monday, it won 't get better.
There are a few good pubs as named before, but spread out all over the city, most of them are 5 minutes away by taxi in different directions.
Some friends of mine and me meet at the "Bierwagen" in front of the "KöPi-Fankurve" before and after each match, then we decide where to go.
That monday we will be there again but I don 't think there will be much going on because of the day, no weekend anymore so most of the people will go home.
A better "event" will be the match against Cottbus on the 15. of march, it 's a friday and we will go some place after it, for sure... :)
So if You 'll be there, let me know.

So anyway, You 're very welcome and keep in touch and what Ben meant because of "people from Benelux", I 'm more into Belgium because of... but that 's another story I will tell You then... ;) :D

See You there, cheers... :bier: :)

Tomorrow we will visit the match against Cottbuss with 4 friends. So.. i'll let you know we will be there :D

Any good advice for a booze after the game? Because the favorable time of 18:00 there will be plenty of time after the match to get a pint after the match. But still not knowing where we have to go for a bit of nightlife? ;)

wir sind Zebras, weiss-blau!

Dag and yes, "self fullfilling prophecy"... :D ;)

We will be there one hour before the match at the "Bierwagen" behind the "KöPi-Fankurve" as I said.
After the match we meet there again and then want to go to a pub not that far away, will let You know about that tomorrow.

See You there... :bier: :)
